Flipkart Wishmaster Inderjeet Kaur has a ‘never-say-never’ attitude. Whether it is tracking down addresses across her delivery area, or chasing her long-term goals, she credits her cheerful disposition for getting her through every challenge. Read on as she talks about fulfilling her own dreams, and taking her family along.
I am second in a family of four siblings, and I was the mischievous one. I would always be outdoors, playing with my friends, and I remember being the one punished the most.
Today, I am 36, and I’ve been married for 15 years. I still continue carrying the same zest for life.
Things were going great for my husband and I – both of us had jobs in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar – we still refer to it as Mohali.
The lockdown came, and with it, we both lost our jobs. But I’m not one to let external situations take me down. My friend Sukhbir Kaur and I began job hunting. She found out about openings for Wishmasters in Flipkart. We went together, and were hired together.
I have a scooter, and deliver to Flipkart customers across market areas, residential areas, and some rural ones. Initially, I used to find it difficult to deliver even 10 parcels a day. Right now, I am so familiar with my customers that I can tell whose parcel it is by just glancing at the first line of the address. They also recognize me now, and ask me about their deliveries.
Although I am a graduate in the Arts, I was never inclined towards a desk job that would require me to work from 9 to 5. I love being outdoors, and I am able to choose my own hours with this job.
I have an 11-year-old son, and a 7-year-old daughter. I go to work once I’ve sent them to school, and I’m back home before they are. I am able to be home by 4 or 5 pm even if I deliver a 100 parcels a day now. The flexible timings work great for me since I can spend time with my children.
I have always loved dancing – especially the Giddha and the Bhangra – Punjabi folk dances. I’m thrilled to say that my daughter has watched me dance, and is now a wonderful dancer herself!
The people at my hub are extremely supportive. Anytime I’m in doubt, my calls never go unanswered, and I always get a solution.
I have already been a part of four editions of the Big Billion Days Sale. It is also a really festive period, and the whole hub is excited. I remember BBDs where dhols (drums) were brought in and I danced with all my seniors.
The number of packages are really high during this period, but so are the earnings. Being financially independent is of utmost importance to me, so I really look forward to this period.
My father-in-law wanted to move back to our village in Haryana a few years ago, but I could visualize a bright future for my children right here. So I convinced my family to stay back in Chandigarh. My heart was set on us owning our house, and in 2020 we bought the flat we live in right now. I was so determined to live in our own flat that I decided to take up the responsibility of paying the EMIs, and now my husband and I run the family together.
I have many dreams. I want to own an independent house, a scooter and a jeep in my name. Most importantly, I want to save money so I can provide my children with the best higher education.
It feels great to be able to make my own financial decisions, and I wish this for other women too!
