One In A Billion - Flipkart Wishmaster Vivek Kumar

From a borrowed bicycle to a motorcycle of his own – in Patna, Bihar, Flipkart Wishmaster Vivek Kumar is riding towards his goals. This is his #OneInABillion story.

I am 28 years old, and moved to Patna three years ago, because there weren’t that many opportunities to earn money in my village. I live with my wife, our four-year-old daughter and two-year-old son.

I used to work at a mithai shop, but things were not easy. I didn’t have time to spend with my family, let alone take a breather for myself. My salary wasn’t sufficient either. I was somehow trying to make ends meet, but I eventually lost that job during the lockdown.

My friend was a real savior — he told me about an opening at Flipkart. He even helped me through the whole process, and also lent me his bicycle to make deliveries on.

Wishmaster

Once I got a job at Flipkart as a Wishmaster, I underwent training here. The first month was challenging because I didn’t know the city very well. But after initial hurdles, things have been smooth.

I earn well as a Flipkart Wishmaster. I reach work at 7 am, deliver orders to customers on time, and I am able to spend time with my family too. I am also studying for the intermediate exams right now. Work is really important for me at the moment, since I have to support my family. But I think it is equally important to study. It is necessary to know how to balance time for work, family and also for ourselves. So I study before I leave for work and after I spend some time with my family in the evenings.

I joined as a Flipkart Wishmaster in June last year. During The Big Billion Days sale in 2021, I was well-prepared and delivered 90-100 orders, sometimes even 120 parcels, a day. With those earnings, I was able to save up enough money for a down payment on a bike. Now, I no longer have to do deliveries on my friend’s bicycle.

We are all really excited about this year’s BBD too at the hub. This is my second BBD, so I am mentally prepared for what we need to do. I receive full support from my team at the hub – that’s the reason I am here right now.

I have some plans for my earnings this year as well. Obviously, I will spend some money on buying new clothes for the whole family since it is the festive season. But I will try to close off the loan on my bike too.

For the last few days, everytime I deliver a Flipkart package, I have been telling the customers about BBD. I really enjoy interacting with customers, and I think they like me too.

Work is going well right now. Aage bhi sahi tareeke se chalta raha, toh poori life hum Flipkart mein hi bita denge. (If things go well in future, I will spend my whole life at Flipkart!)
