From managing destination weddings to managing teams at the Flipkart hub in Jaisalmer, Team Lead Shital Sharma considers every opportunity a learning experience. An efficient leader, Shital attributes her success as a professional to Flipkart, where, she says, she has learned two important lessons of being part of an organization - teamwork and professionalism. Read on to know how she aces both her role at Flipkart and also the writer in her.
I am Shital Sharma, the hub in-charge at the Flipkart hub in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. I’ve been working at Flipkart for about a year-and-a-half now. Jaisalmer is where I was born and raised.
Along with my work, I’m also pursuing a Masters in Commerce online, and I am currently in my second year. My father runs a sweet shop in the city and my mother’s a homemaker. My elder brother is a finance manager while my little sister is still studying.
Jaisalmer is quite different from the big cities. It’s peaceful and not as crowded. The best part? We live amid history with ancient forts – 11 of them – that were built centuries ago. These forts are our historical gems and remind us every day of who we are.
Before Flipkart, I was working as a Junior Assistant at an event management company. It’s a hot job here, thanks to all the destination weddings we host. That’s where I met a lot of people, and that’s also how I found out about the opportunity at Flipkart. My experience in organizing events has helped immensely with managing a hub – dealing with clients and vendors is a skill I have honed over the years.
Now, my work involves making sure things run smoothly in the hub. Shipments come in the morning, and my team and I ensure the best routes for our Wishmasters. Our goal is crystal clear – make sure Flipkart orders reach the people of Jaisalmer and beyond on time and in the safest way possible.
The thing I love most about my job is my team. They’re like family. Without them, getting anything done would be tough. Luckily, I’ve got an awesome team that always has each other’s backs. No matter what challenges we face, we tackle them together.
When I first joined Flipkart, I didn’t know what to expect. My first big test was during The Big Billion Days – a super busy time. I was new to logistics, having just come from event management. But my Area Manager, Lokesh Yadav, guided me, gave me the support I needed, and ensured I had all the resources to handle the frenzy of BBD. The Wishmasters, junior team members, and other Team Leads also pitched in. They’re the real heroes who keep this hub running, especially during the festive season.
On a regular day, we handle about 400 to 500 shipments. But during the Big Billion Days, that number shoots up to a whopping 2000 shipments in a single day. It’s intense, but teamwork is what gets us through.
Flipkart has taught me some important things. Teamwork is everything. Whether it’s the Wishmasters, the Area Managers, or anyone else, we all need each other to make things work. Professionalism is another big lesson I’ve learned here.
When I’m not busy with all of this, I write. I’ve even had a couple of my stories published. Reading is another one of my passions. Books open up new worlds for me, just like my journey from event planning to hub management did.
