When Shwetha Shetty joined Flipkart as a Wishmaster in 2022, she brought with her more than efficiency — her deep ties to her neighborhood and her ability to connect make her a bridge between the work and the community she serves. And with each delivery, she’s taking her one step closer to her dream — that of owning a home. Read her #OneInABillion story.
My story begins in Udupi, Karnataka, in the quiet lanes of Bannanje, where I was born, and where I live today with my husband, our two children, and my father.
Like many women in India, my journey changed course after marriage and motherhood. I took a career break to dedicate myself entirely to my family. For a while, that rhythm of home felt right – cooking, caring, and keeping things running. But beneath that routine, there was always a small, steady voice inside me that wanted to do more – to step back into the world of work and rediscover a part of myself I had tucked away.
That opportunity came when I heard that Flipkart was hiring part-time Wishmasters in Udupi. I didn’t hesitate. I went straight to the local hub to learn more. The flexibility of the role and the clear scope for growth instantly appealed to me. It felt like a path that would allow me to balance both – my home and my career. On July 25, 2022, I officially began a new chapter in my life.
My days now follow a routine that feels both structured and freeing. I start early at the delivery hub, sorting and preparing my orders. My daily goal is simple: complete my deliveries by 4:30 in the evening. That deadline keeps me disciplined, and it also means I am home when my children return from school. Being there for them – helping with homework, chatting about their day – keeps me grounded in why I do what I do.
At the Flipkart hub, I have found more than just a workplace. The environment is welcoming and fair – there’s no difference in how they treat male or female Wishmasters here. My colleagues are very supportive, and the atmosphere of teamwork makes me feel confident and secure.
Technology, too, has become a real ally in my work. The updated Flipkart delivery app, with its QR-code system, has made payments faster and deliveries smoother. I can now locate customer addresses easily and reach their doorstep on time. I have been on the same route since I started, and I know it like the back of my hand. Over time, I have become a familiar face in the neighborhood. This working relationship also helps me deliver orders without any hassle.
During busy times, like the Big Billion Days (BBD) sale, the pace quickens and the workload increases. But for me, that also means more earnings and a chance to push myself further. I have now completed three BBDs, and with each one I have grown more confident and capable in my work. What makes the busy season more worthwhile is seeing the smile on a customer’s face when their long-awaited package arrives on time.
The best part about being a Wishmaster is the flexibility it enables. As a mother managing a household of five, emergencies are common. Knowing that I can handle those responsibilities and still continue my work gives me peace of mind.
This work has brought me financial stability and, more importantly, a new sense of purpose. It has helped me use my time wisely – to be both a provider and a caregiver. Each delivery I make is more than just a package. It is a small step toward my dream of owning a home.
When I look at my family and the life we are building, I know that I am not just delivering orders, I am helping shape our future.
