From overcoming early doubts to embracing new responsibilities at Flipkart, eDAB (eKartians with Disabilities) Sorter Tarun is working toward a future he looks forward to with pride. This is his inspiring story.
My name is Tarun Das, and I’ve been working with Flipkart for almost four years now. When I look back at where I started, it feels like I’ve come a long way – not just in my career but in life.
I grew up in a small town – Goalpara, Assam. As someone who has lived with a physical disability since birth, I found that opportunities for growth were limited in towns like mine.
After finishing the 10th grade, I couldn’t continue my studies due to financial challenges. I started working in a hardware shop to help out at home. But I always wanted something more – a chance to grow, to take on new responsibilities.
A childhood friend of mine, who currently works at Flipkart as a Team Lead, told me about the eDAB (eKartians with Disabilities) program. I decided to join, but honestly, I was nervous. I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off. My Hub-in-charge at the time really helped me settle in. He guided me patiently and showed me that I could manage things, even when I felt overwhelmed.
Today, I work as a Sorter at Flipkart, and I take pride in it. Knowing that my team and the company trust me to manage important operations motivates me to keep pushing forward.
At work, I always try to help my colleagues whenever they need support. I know what it’s like to feel unsure, and if I can make someone else’s day a little easier, I do. Over time, I’ve realized how much I’ve grown here. I used to be very introverted, but working at Flipkart and interacting with so many people has made me more confident and outgoing.
Outside of work, my life revolves around my family – my mother, my wife, and my young son. We live in a rented house right now, but I’ve taken the first step toward a big dream: I’ve bought a plot of land. I’m working hard to save enough to build our own home, a place where my family can feel secure and happy.
I still remember the joy of fulfilling small dreams. I’d always wanted a particular phone model and a branded speaker. It might seem like a small thing to some, but for me, being able to buy them with my own earnings felt like a big achievement.
Traveling is something I enjoy when I get the chance. It reminds me of how far I’ve come, and it gives me time to reflect on what’s next.
Looking back, I can say with confidence that my disability has never held me back. It’s just one part of who I am, but it doesn’t define me. My family and my colleagues at Flipkart have always been there to support me, and I’m grateful for that.
“If there’s a will, there’s a way,” that’s what I live by, both at work and in my personal life. Whether it’s taking on new challenges, leading a team, or building a home for my family, I know I’ll find a way. Because giving up has never been an option for me.
